Maud The Moth
Maud the Moth is the solo project of Spanish-born and Scotland-based pianist, singer and songwriter Amaya López-Carromero. Maud the Moth serves as Amaya’s alter ego: a séance-like conduit through which to process personal life experiences, and in particular themes of rootlessness, identity and trauma. Stylistically, Maud the moth uses her classical training as a platform upon which her eclectic songwriting and cathartic solo live performances rest. With the usage of live looping, Amaya weaves sonic tapestries riddled with distorted or effected pianos and driven by an enigmatic and deeply moving voice.
Amaya’s commitment to her own personal vision has attracted performance opportunities from a wide range of promoters and artistic directors including Roadburn Festival (NL), Primavera Sound (ES), AMFest (ES), Rock in Bourlon (FR), Ancient Echoes (DE), Festival Noroeste (ES), Celtic connections (UK), Noite Branca (PT), Ronnie Scott's (UK), Brudenell Piano Session (UK) and CCCB (ES) amongst others. Maud the moth has also been invited to perform as guest artist by Chelsea Wolfe, Anna von Hausswolf, Kayo Dot, Dvne and Helen Money amongst other artists.
Maud the Moth has released three full-length albums and two live EPs. She has appeared performing live on BBC Scotland and her music has been featured amongst other outlets, on BBC (UK), RNE (ES) and Bandcamp Radio where she was interviewed. Her third full length album ‘Orphnē’ saw premieres in Echoes and dust and Louder, receiving critical acclaim from Metal hammer magazine, Prog, Louder, Roadburn Festival, Bring the noise and Mondosonoro amongst others.
In 2023 she released “Bordando el Manto Terrestre”, a collaborative album with Galician dark-ambient duo trajedesaliva which offers a sonic exploration to the life and work of Spanish/Mexican surrealist painter RemediosVaro. This work was premiered by echoes and dust, and released to acclaim of multiple outlets including Angry Metal Guy.
Maud the moth will be releasing her fourth full-length “The Distaff” on 21/02/25. The first single 'Siphonophores' was released on 12/11/24 with an accompanying video by Elena Brea.
