Maud The Moth
Maud the moth is the alter ego of Amaya López-Carromero; a Spanish-born and Scotland-based pianist, singer and songwriter. A classically trained musician with a sensitivity for darker and heavier forms of expression, Maud the moth has become one of the most unique and recognisable voices in the European alternative music scene, always exploring uncharted musical territories and constructing a path of her own.
She has performed at multiple prestigious festivals internationally, such as Roadburn, ArcTanGent, Primavera Sound, AMFest, Rock in Bourlon, etc. and has appeared performing live at BBC Scotland and Spanish National Television (RTVE) concert series “Los Conciertos de Radio3”. Her music has been featured amongst other outlets, on KEXP (US), “Mastered at Abbey Road series” highlights, BBC6 (UK), RNE (ES) and Bandcamp Radio where she was interviewed. Her work has been critically acclaimed by BBC6, Prog, Louder, Angry Metal Guy, Metal Hammer Magazine, Postpunk.com, Eclipsed, Roadburn Festival, Echoes and Dust, The Skinny, Artribune and Mondosonoro amongst others.
Maud the moth has also been invited to perform as special guest supporting Chelsea Wolfe, Kayo Dot , Anna von Hausswolff, Hexvessel, Dvne, Ak’chamel, Faetooth, Kalandra and many other artists.
An awardee of PRS Foundation WMM and Creative Scotland Open Fund, her latest studio work "The Distaff" released to critical acclaim and charted in the UK at #31. It was mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road and features Seb Rochford (Patti Smith, Polar Bear, Sons of Kemet, Pulled by Magnets, etc.) on drums, Alison Chesley (Helen Money) on cello, Fay Guiffo on violin and Scott McLean (Ashenspire, healthyliving, Falloch) on guitar, saxophone and synthesiser, doubling on co-production and mixing. Full press report here.
